but they DO have some of their hierarchical class boundaries built right in to the language in the form of honorifics after all. I don’t believe that Japan is that backward, and I do believe that it is rapidly changing – I’ve no doubt.
certain countries that are still so predominantly patriarchal, basically… well, where women are expected to walk a few feet behind men and so forth. It may sound like a stupid or naive question, but – I also have no doubt that there ARE places in the world where this is relatively the REALITY, i.e. that “I was beyond the point of self-control” was an acceptable excuse for raping a girl. Reason is, most of these damn hentai make it seem like the general philosophy of the men in that country is if she dresses a certain way, or if she gets your motor running for whatever reason – then you are not responsible for your actions – i.e. % of rapes that are not reported to police. The whole “damaged goods” tag comes to mind… I wonder how true this is – what the percentage is vs. well, that a rape victim is still, even in this day and age, treated as somewhat of an embarrassment or disgrace by many families. I’ve always had the impression, just from all sources over a few years, that the crime of rape probably has a relatively high percentage of “Unreported” – I say this because I have the impression that the stigma. – fact is that there is a lot that I do not know. I find that I have to ask – I know that this is eroge, it’s hentai… but being from a different country and – while I am interested in the Japanese culture – and not just through the eyes of an otaku or a VN “enthusiast”, btw.
